Travelling naturalist’s necessities:

http://www.avestom.com/index.php/english

Lots of trip reports, lists of guides, tour operators and many useful links

Maps & directions:

Anybody who doesn’t know the Google Maps and Google Earth are wasting their time and should be prosecuted :)

But did you know there are other solutions for maps of Poland when Google services give poor resolution or old pictures?

1. Zumi

ZUMI is in polish but should be easy to navigate as it’s a rip off the Google Maps. For some areas (like Biebrza) they give better resolution and more recent pictures.

2. Geoportal

GEOPORTAL is a very useful tool. Not only has it brilliant resolution for the whole of Poland but the scans of real maps and other tools as well. It is also in polish only but again – shouldn’t be too difficult to use.

When it loads the reddish borders just click the ORTO for photo-look, RASTER or TOPO for detailed maps. Isn’t it great?

It also has great measuring tools like the Google Earth App and if you enter your monitor size in inches in the Settings – USTAWIENIA, then you see the proper scale of the maps, how about that?!

Weather

1. New meteo.pl

Check out a great numeric weather forecasts here:

http://new.meteo.pl/index_en.php

When you learn to read meteorograms it is a great tool! And it’s by far more precise than any other forecast I tried! Plus you get the detailed sunrise and sunset time for the given day.

I usually use the MODEL COAMPS with Grid: 13km and Forecast length: 84h.

2. Freemeteo

Another one I always use is the Freemeteo:

http://freemeteo.com/

You can see I use it on my website. I like it for the meteorograms and it often gave more accurate forecast than the new.meteo.pl above.

3. University meteo station

Finnally check out the Automatic Weather Station at University in Białystok for current weather

http://meteo.uwb.edu.pl/

It is actual current weather in the centre of the city. Very accurate. You can use it as a test for other websites with current weather.

Enjoy and if you find any other useful links please share!
